Young People
Our aim is to support young people aged 13-19 who are children in care to make a successful and sustained transition into education, employment and training.
We take a young person centred approach ensuring that young people have the support they need to participate fully, making decisions on their post 16 pathways and fulfilling their life and career opportunities.
With this in mind we look to fully involve parents and carers in the process to ensure the right pathway is chosen.
Young people
The Young People’s Service provides support to:
- attend PEP meetings/reviews from year 9 and every review thereafter with a focus on preparing for adulthood. Planning is centered on the individual and explores the young person’s aspirations and abilities, what they want to do when they leave post-16 education or training and the support they need to achieve their ambition.
- help young people plan for the future and make the most of their life and career opportunities. Our aim is to support young people into making successful and sustained transitions into education, employment or training.
- track the destinations of young people up to their nineteenth birthday and provide support/advice if they are not participating
Parents and Carers
The Young People’s Service provides support to:
- provide information, advice, guidance and support through the PEP assessment and planning process
- represent Cheshire West and Chester through attendance at PEP transition reviews
- ensure parents and carers are aware of all opportunities available including apprenticeships, volunteering and other personal development opportunities
- link to local providers including arranging visits and initial assessments with post 16 providers and follow up any recommendations
- signpost to other local or national sources of advice, information and support
Partners
The Young People’s Service provides support to:
- Facilitate the above. We work with schools, colleges and other post-16 providers, as well as other agencies, to support young people to participate in education or training. We identify those in need of targeted support to help them make positive and well-informed choices.
